Success is not just about performance, numbers or external recognition. According to mental coach and university lecturer Marian Jelínek, real progress starts much closer. Inside our own inner world. In this in depth interview, he explains why the ability to work with thoughts, emotions and habits is essential and why long term success cannot exist without it.

Marian Jelínek connects elite sport, business leadership and education. At NEWTON University, he serves as the guarantor of professional programmes focused on human potential and mental performance, including the MSc in Mental Coaching in Sport and Business and the MBA in People and Talent Management

In the interview, he discusses why reading books or attending courses alone does not lead to real change, how coaching differs from psychology and why we should regularly “take ourselves on a date”. A moment of conscious reflection where we pause, look inward and reassess where we are heading. Not once a year, but as a natural part of personal and professional growth.

Czech e-shops have had an exceptionally strong year. Sales exceeded CZK 200 billion for the first time, with growth outpacing experts’ expectations. Czech consumers are increasingly buying electronics, home and garden products, and beauty items online, while the importance of discount events and parcel lockers continues to rise. Our economist Jan Boubín explains in a report on TV Nova that the growth is driven mainly by a combination of rising wages, price stabilisation, and greater consumer confidence. According to experts, online shopping will continue to strengthen, supported in part by the growing role of artificial intelligence in customer decision-making.

Survey: What did your university studies give you?

What remains when the textbooks are closed and the diploma is handed in? A survey by the weekly magazine Respekt shows that the greatest value of university education lies not only in knowledge itself, but in the ability to think in context, work with uncertainty, and meet people who fundamentally shape one’s professional and personal direction. Their perspectives are shared by graduates of Czech and international universities, including a student of NEWTON University.
