From January 2026, the Czech Civil Code clearly states that corporal punishment and humiliation have no place in child-rearing. For many parents, this raises a difficult question: how to set boundaries, manage emotions and maintain authority. The article shows that the answer does not lie in punishment, but in the ability to work with emotions, responsibility and psychological safety.
What do parenting and leadership have in common? More than it might seem at first glance. The author of the article, Simona Dosedělová, coach and soft skills lecturer at NEWTON University, connects the current legislative change with the psychology of emotions and her experience working with managers and parents alike. She explains why authority is not built through force or winning conflicts, but through the capacity to contain emotions, set boundaries without humiliation and create an environment of psychological safety. This approach lies at the heart of modern leadership, which NEWTON University has long been developing both in management education and in the personal and professional growth of individuals.
