Changing your career direction after fifty is not stepping away from the stage. More often, it marks the beginning of a new chapter. Business mentor and investor Margareta Křížová shows that experience can be one of the greatest advantages in today’s labour market. And that the courage to start again may become one of the best investments in your future.

Starting again after fifty? For Margareta Křížová, a third career may be the boldest move of all

A third career as a new chapter

Many people believe that after years in the same field, or simply with age, opportunities in the labour market begin to shrink. In reality, the opposite is often true. Experience, professional networks and the ability to see the bigger picture have become some of the most valuable forms of capital.

This is the idea behind business mentor, investor and author of the book Third Career, Margareta Křížová. In her talks and interviews, she repeatedly points out that changing careers after fifty is not an exception. It is increasingly becoming a natural part of modern working life.

She made that step herself when, at the age of 53, she left a well established company to follow her own path. As she says, fear is natural. But it should not hold us back. What matters most is discipline, self confidence and a willingness to keep learning.

Just as we invest in our health or appearance, we should also invest in our personal development and education. Very often, this is what determines whether change turns into a real opportunity.

From experience to entrepreneurship

Today, Margareta Křížová shares her experience mainly through practice. At the NEWTON Business Accelerator, she helps students and professionals develop business ideas and turn them into real projects.

The accelerator connects the academic environment with real world business experience. Participants receive honest feedback, mentoring and access to a community of people who want to move their projects forward.

For some, it is the first step into entrepreneurship. For others, it marks the beginning of a new career chapter.

The world of work is changing

The population is ageing and the labour market is evolving rapidly. Companies that know how to work with experience across generations will have a significant advantage in the years ahead.

The real question is not whether it is possible to start again. The question is who will be ready to seize the opportunity.

If you have an idea you want to develop, the NEWTON Business Accelerator may be the place where it becomes a real project. Under the guidance of Margareta Křížová, you gain experience, feedback and a community that supports your entrepreneurial journey.

The next cohort begins in September. Follow the Accelerator website and subscribe to the newsletter so you do not miss any updates.

“AI may be remarkable, but a human educator remains irreplaceable,” says Rob Westbrook

Originally from the United States, Rob Westbrook arrived in Central Europe to reconnect with his family’s Austrian heritage and eventually made Brno his long-term home. At NEWTON University he teaches much more than English or mathematics. His work focuses on nurturing critical thinking, intellectual curiosity and empathy in a new generation of students. In this interview, he reflects on why Brno became such a significant place for him, what gives NEWTON its distinctive sense of community, and why the human presence in teaching matters more than ever in an age defined by rapid technological change.

Me First! Radical Selfishness as a Marker of Mature Leadership

“Me first” sounds suspicious in leadership. Almost like admitting weakness, failure or a lack of integrity. We tend to admire leaders who endure more than others, push themselves to the limit, operate under long-term pressure and sacrifice themselves for the team. Yet this is exactly where one of the most harmful myths of modern leadership begins. Without the ability to put yourself first, you cannot carry responsibility for others in a sustainable, healthy or high-quality way.
Don’t wait for certainty. Create it.

Don’t wait for certainty. Create it.

In leadership, certainty rarely shows up in advance. Yet many people keep waiting for it: for more information, clearer instructions, calmer times, better conditions. The reality of leading is different. You have to act long before everything makes sense.
