With the rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI), some institutions have started to abolish final theses altogether, arguing that their original purpose is fading and that they can be too easily generated. The opposite view is increasingly proving to be true.
At the first meeting of experts from the Centre of Excellence, which brings together representatives of the Czech Management Association and NEWTON University, leaders agreed on a clear point. In today’s environment, the final qualification thesis remains one of the strongest indicators of a candidate’s real capabilities for employers. The ability to complete a substantial project, explain it clearly, defend it critically, and respond to feedback represents a set of skills that strongly correlates with success in the labour market.
What companies are looking for
The modern labour market is undergoing a fundamental transformation. A degree alone or even strong technical expertise is no longer enough to secure a strong position. Research from the Czech Confederation of Industry and Transport shows that employers place increasing emphasis on personal attributes, adaptability, complex problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with information at an advanced level.
A skills-based hiring approach is becoming more prominent. It focuses on demonstrable competencies and lifelong learning. Within this model, intrinsic motivation and healthy self-confidence play a central role.
More than ever, the way students approach the final stage of their studies matters. A bachelor’s or master’s thesis demonstrates whether graduates truly possess the competencies they developed during their studies. Recruitment practice also shows that employers increasingly ask for real project outputs or portfolios. A well-prepared thesis therefore functions as a strong professional asset that reflects attention to detail, precision, and analytical thinking.

- You can complete a complex project: Writing a bachelor’s thesis of around 30 pages or a master’s thesis of 60 to 80 pages requires discipline, structure, and long-term planning.
- You are able to think critically: An academic text cannot be a compilation of copied sources. It must include original thinking, a structured perspective, and critical reflection supported by evidence.
- You can conduct research and analysis: You are able to work with academic databases, libraries, and online sources, synthesise information, and translate insights into practical recommendations.
- You can accept constructive feedback: A strong thesis requires the ability to reflect on limitations, incorporate feedback, and improve your work without defensiveness. This signals professional maturity.
First real responsibility in life
While some institutions are moving away from traditional theses due to the influence of AI, NEWTON continues to recognise and protect their value. A final thesis is not a formality. It is a meaningful reflection of a student’s future professional trajectory.
