Only two projects were selected from 41 submissions. One of them is a NEWTON University study led by Petr Zimčík, examining how young people respond to spending limits, changes in stakes and other measures designed to support safer gambling.

Online gambling is a routine part of life for many members of Generation Z. However, harmful gambling can affect mental health, personal finances, working life and relationships. Effective prevention must therefore go beyond general warnings and be informed by how young players actually behave.

Selected through an international initiative run by Allwyn Group, the NEWTON University study will examine Generation Z’s responses in a controlled testing environment. Led by Petr Zimčík, the team will explore how young people react to changes in stakes, spending limits and other situations involving potentially risky decisions.

The project aims to strengthen prevention and encourage an approach in which gambling remains a form of entertainment within clear financial and time limits. The study will be completed in September 2027, with its principal findings and recommendations due to be presented during the summer.
