Statement of NEWTON University on the Funding of Public Service Media

The leadership of NEWTON University joins the statement issued by the Presidium of the Czech Rectors Conference on 23 October 2026 concerning the funding of public service media.

Public service media play an important role in education, the dissemination of knowledge and making expert knowledge accessible to the wider public. They support lifelong learning and contribute to an informed society. We therefore consider their educational and informational role an important part of their public service remit.

Any potential changes to their funding should take this role into account and be guided by transparency, open expert discussion and a thorough assessment of their potential impact. We consider it essential that funding arrangements enable public service media to fulfil their remit in the long term while maintaining the quality of the services they provide.
