Getting Ready for the New Semester: Insights from Sting Lecturers

In this article, we would like to give you a glimpse behind the scenes at Sting University College. When you think of preparing for a new semester, you might imagine a lecturer sitting with tax legislation (if they teach taxation), updating their teaching materials with the latest changes.

And of course, we do that too!

But we also focus on creating a friendly and supportive environment not only for our students, but across the entire academic community – including our lecturers.

Preparatory Week at the End of August

Every year, Sting and NEWTON University organise a joint preparatory week, during which lecturers learn about the latest developments and opportunities available to them.

To give just a few examples, lecturers could take part in lectures and workshops covering:

• new features of the information system,
• support opportunities not only in digital teaching, but also in science and research,
• current projects,
• the Erasmus+ programme.

Those interested could also take part in media training with Tomáš Hauptvogel.

Together, we also shared our teaching experiences and discussed supervising final theses.

Team-Building Meeting at Lísek

Many of our team-building activities have traditionally taken place at Lísek. It is a place where both new and existing students from our study programmes come together.

As Chancellor Jiří Koleňák says:
"I enjoy seeing how, within just a few days, people who did not know each other become friends."

This same magic also works among our academics. It is not that we do not know each other in Brno, but thanks to Lísek we have the opportunity to meet colleagues from NEWTON University who work in Prague and Bratislava.

It is always a highly enriching experience that can lead to interesting publication ideas and new projects. The diversity of our areas of expertise allows us to explore different topics from multiple perspectives – and the results are truly worth it.

However, all participants agreed on one thing: they are already looking forward to the new semester!
