Learning from Industry Experts at Sting (Summer Semester 2024)
3. 9. 2024 NUG World Study and Education Taxes and Accounting
At Sting we strive to ensure that our students have the opportunity to engage with industry experts throughout their studies. We were therefore delighted that four inspiring professionals accepted our invitation to contribute to the Accounting and Tax Case Studies course.
In addition to sharing engaging and insightful stories from their professional experience, each speaker prepared case studies for students covering accounting, taxation, and auditing.
Digital Transformation of Accounting with Robert Soudný
The repetitive task of manually entering pre-printed documents is a nightmare for many accountants. It is also one of the reasons why some secondary school students decide to avoid accounting careers.
We are therefore delighted that Robert Soudný (wflow) is one of the pioneers in the field who are challenging these outdated perceptions and helping to reshape the future of the accounting profession. We firmly believe that accountants will achieve a level of recognition similar to tax advisers, auditors, and lawyers – including in terms of financial rewards.
During Robert’s lecture, students had the opportunity to see for themselves how modern technologies can significantly support everyday accounting tasks.
Employee Benefits with Jan Bonaventura
Jan Bonaventura (BREDFORD Consulting, s.r.o.) is a tax influencer who can explain even complex tax topics in a clear and engaging way. A great example of this was the fact that our students continued listening to Honza’s lecture even after the scheduled class time had ended.
You may wonder what could be so interesting about employee benefits. What about the Long-Term Investment Product or employee shares? And that was only the beginning.
Financial Statements with Jana Jáčová
Financial statements and their interpretation provide accounting entities, investors, and other users with important information about a company’s activities. It is therefore essential that financial reporting follows standardised and reliable procedures.
Using practical examples, Jana Jáčová (UOL) showed students how to approach this sometimes challenging task and how to avoid common mistakes. We are delighted that three of our students were so inspired that they may soon become accountants at this company, which ranks among the ten largest accounting advisory firms.
Auditing with Jakub Smolík
Jana Jáčová’s lecture was followed by Jakub Smolík (Rödl & Partner), who introduced students to the field of auditing. After a theoretical introduction that helped students understand the role of an auditor, Jakub continued with practical case studies covering topics such as reasonable assurance, ESG reporting, and auditor’s reports and opinions.
Two of his statements particularly stood out to me:
- We approach audits with humility.
- Cooperation with accountants is usually very good.
I firmly believe that this relationship between accountants and auditors will continue to thrive, and that these lectures have also contributed to strengthening it.
The summer semester is behind us. However, we are already arranging further inspiring guests whom you can meet during the winter semester.
So do not hesitate and apply to Sting University College to make sure you do not miss out on future opportunities.
We look forward to seeing you.
Prepared on behalf of Sting by Pavel Semerád – guarantor of the Accounting and Tax Case Studies course, where we invite inspiring professionals from the fields of accounting, taxation, and auditing.
