After experiencing homelessness as a teenager, Jan Oulehla went on to build a catering business with ambitions to take the Czech schnitzel beyond the domestic market. He also developed his venture through the NEWTON Business Accelerator. Czech business daily e15 has now explored the company’s rapid growth, bold vision and current financial difficulties.
Jan Oulehla began his entrepreneurial journey while studying at NEWTON University. What started as a local venture gradually became a well-known Brno brand offering home delivery and catering for corporate events. Through the NEWTON Business Accelerator, he was able to develop his business concept with the support of experienced mentors.
The company’s ambitions grew over time. Oulehla wanted to turn a traditional Czech dish into a concept with international potential. Behind the compelling personal story and bold vision, however, was a demanding food business that depended on stable financing, reliable supplier relationships and carefully managed growth.
According to e15, the company began facing debt, cash flow problems and disputes with suppliers in 2025. It is now dealing with insolvency. The story of Honzovy řízky highlights a less visible side of entrepreneurship, where success depends not only on a strong idea, but also on financial discipline, resilience and the long term viability of the business model.
