What Do You Think Is the Biggest Barrier to a Healthier Lifestyle in the Czech Republic?

A healthier lifestyle is not just about exercise and diet. It also depends on how we manage stress, the habits we build into our everyday lives, and whether we take care of our health before the first problem appears.

In the latest issue of Echo, experts from medicine, physiotherapy, nutrition, psychology and finance share their views on what stands in the way of a healthier lifestyle in the Czech Republic. Among them is sports coach and NEWTON University lecturer Marian Jelínek, who highlights an often overlooked aspect of self-care: looking after our “second home”, our mind and soul. In his view, we know increasingly more about caring for our physical health, but are far less equipped to deal with stress, emotions and our own thoughts.

Jiří Pecina, founder and CEO of MEDDI hub and a NEWTON University alumnus, offers another perspective. He sees one of the key problems in the fact that we often start thinking about our health only when something goes wrong. He believes we need to shift our focus from treating the consequences to making preventive care more accessible and part of our everyday lives, including through digital healthcare.
